Typical Growth Forms of Plumerias

Plumerias have made their way into many living rooms and conservatories in recent years. What most plant lovers do not consider is how large a plant can grow with ideal care. The Plumeria Society has defined 3 special growth forms for Plumerias, in which each variety must be classified.

Weak Growth, Mostly Compact

Plumerias that have been sorted into this group are perfect for living rooms or conservatories. These varieties grow very slowly and often branch out with a bloom, remaining compact even after many years and requiring little space on the windowsill.

Wide and Rather Upright, Strong Growth

These plants need more space than the compact types, and they grow significantly faster and stronger. These varieties are suitable for large terraces or large conservatories. I would not recommend these varieties for the living room window!

Fast and Often Thin-Growing

The varieties in this category grow very quickly, up to 50cm per year under ideal care and conditions, primarily have thin trunks, and usually need support to prevent breaking. I would recommend these types for sheltered spots, such as a large conservatory.
