Frangipani / Plumeria Repotting

When can I repot my Frangipani?

A question that many hobby gardeners and lovers of Plumeria often ask. Here, we shed some light on the matter! Many hobby gardeners do it too early or too late. The size and material of the flower pot are also crucial. Additionally, it is important (for mature plants) to treat the root ball properly before repotting. We will briefly explain all this here, so that you can repot your favorites with a clear conscience without harming them.

When can I repot seedlings?

Seedlings can be repotted as soon as they have their first 4 true leaves. The first two seed leaves do not count as leaves! Choose a larger pot for seedlings so that they won’t need to be repotted again for the next 2 – 3 years.

When should I / can I repot?

You can repot your Plumerias from May until the end of September. Ideally, you should start after the first fresh leaves have emerged.

Which pot should I choose?

Choose a pot that is significantly larger than the current pot. It should be made of plastic (with ceramic pots, there is a risk that roots may adhere to the pot and could be damaged during repotting). Choose a dark pot, as it can store solar heat better than a light pot.

What should I consider when repotting?

When repotting mature plants, you should remove one-third of the old roots. Similar to cutting a cake, simply cut out 1/3 like a piece of cake.

Can I fertilize immediately after repotting?

Of course, you can fertilize your Frangipani immediately after repotting, but please with a somewhat reduced dose. After 3 – 4 weeks, you can normalize the fertilization again.

When should I give adult plants new soil?

You should renew the soil of your Frangipani every 5 – 7 years.
