Plumeria Colors That Don’t Exist

Mr. Meyer, I bought a Plumeria on eBay 2 years ago that was supposed to bloom green. This year it has bloomed but only white/yellow. Did I do something wrong?

We often receive such and similar inquiries. Many customers are insecure or ask if we have black/white, blue, and blue-orange plants available in the shop.

Unfortunately, we cannot, BECAUSE THESE COLORS DO NOT EXIST!
I have often warned about such fake colors on various platforms, but unfortunately, every year customers fall for this scam again.

If you see a Plumeria bloom in an unusual color, do not purchase immediately, but contact us. We can then tell you if such a color or color combination exists for a Plumeria rubra at all.

Here we have created a few examples of typical colors that are offered on the platforms and that do not exist.

If you have purchased Frangipani seeds of such varieties, we would like to remind you of the inheritance in Plumeria seeds.

If you purchased cuttings, it may be that you received a seedling or a mini-cutting that will only bloom in 2-3 years, and then it will be too late for a complaint about the purchase.

In the genetic material of Plumeria, there are certain „safe“ colors from which a new color combination (in seeds) can arise. These „base colors“ are almost always present in over 95% of cases.

• yellow
• red

In addition to the colors, a Plumeria also inherits its growth form, fragrance, and flower shape, but unfortunately (in Plumeria seeds) only up to a maximum of 50%.
