If seeds of the Plumeria rubra ‚Bali Whirl‘ are offered to you, do not buy them, as the Bali Whirl is the only Plumeria that cannot develop seed pods that would produce this feature (10 petals). The Bali Whirl can only be propagated by cuttings. Often, seeds of Plumerias are offered on large platforms like Amazon or eBay, claiming to bloom in green or blue or even completely black. Firstly, such flower colors do NOT exist in Plumerias at this time, and secondly, any color can appear from seeds after 3-7 years on the plant. Under no circumstances buy such seeds or cuttings if the color is extremely bright or unusual. Plumeria seeds contain the complete genetic material of all varieties that have been present in the lineage so far. Therefore, it can happen that from a seed of the ‚Black Tiger‘, which actually blooms deep red (almost black), a plant with white flowers could emerge. AND, it can happen that theoretically each seed from a seed pod develops a different flower color! So if you are looking for a special variety, buy cuttings or plants!
