When, how and in what should I repot my frangipani?

When can I my Frangipani repot?

A question that many hobby gardeners and Plumeria lovers often ask themselves. Here we shed some light on the subject! Many hobby gardeners do it too early or even too late. Then, of course, the size and material of the flower pot is decisive. It is also important (for adult plants) to treat the root ball properly before potting. We will explain all this briefly here so that you can repot your favourites with a clear conscience without harming them.

When can I start repotting seedlings?

You can repot seedlings as soon as they have developed the first 4 true leaves. The first two cotyledons do not count as leaves! Choose a larger pot for seedlings so that they do not need to be repotted for the next 2 - 3 years.

When should / may I repot?

You can repot your Plumerias from May until the end of September. Ideally, you should start after the first fresh leaves have sprouted.

Which pot should I choose?

Choose a pot that is much larger than the current pot. It should be made of plastic(with ceramic pots there is a risk that roots could become anchored to the pot and be damaged when repotting). Choose a dark pot because it can store the sun's heat better than a light pot.

What do I have to consider when repotting?

When you repot adult plants, you should remove a third of the old roots. Similar to a cake. Just cut out 1/3 like a piece of cake.

Can I fertilise immediately after repotting?

Of course you can fertilise your frangipani directly after repotting, but please with a rather reduced dose. After 3 - 4 weeks you can then normalise the fertiliser dosage again.

When should I give adult plants new soil?

You should renew the soil of your frangipani every 5 - 7 years.

Our Frangipani Soil mixtures
