The goal of every grower is, of course, their own flower. But how do you get the frangipani to present us with its beautiful flowers?
Many proud owners look every day to see if their beloved frangipani is developing a bud (umbel). However, there are still many owners who look in the wrong place. The bud of a frangipani only develops at the tip of the shoot, where leaves normally develop. After flowering, a frangipani usually branches into up to 5 new shoots. However, it can also happen that no new branching develops!

It takes 4-6 weeks from the discovery of the bud to the finished flower (it also always depends on the plant). There are slow-growing varieties that sometimes need more than 6 weeks from bud to flower.
Blüht meine Frangipani jedes Jahr?
That depends on how many shoots your plant has. Here in Europe, the rule of thumb is that a flower can only develop on a shoot every 2 years, because it is only strong enough after 2 years. If you have a multi-shoot plant and not every shoot develops a flower, there can be flowers virtually every year.
Kann ich meine Pflanze zur Blüte zwingen? Dünger?
No. They can of course help the plant to get the right nutrients (fertiliser) but whether a flower develops in the end depends on many factors.
- The plant gets enough UV light (sunlight)
- The plant has enough water
- Night temperatures are not below 15°C
- The plant is mature and vigorous enough to flower
If all these factors fit, nothing should stand in the way of a beautiful flower.

Wann blüht mein Frangipani Sämling?
If you have grown a frangipani from seed, it can take up to 4-10 years before the first flower develops. The plant must be strong enough for this. From a height of approx. 1m and a stem diameter of 5cm the plant should be ripe for flowering.
Ich habe einen Steckling bekommen / gekauft. Wann blüht dieser?
Cuttings are usually ready to flower immediately. If it does not have roots yet, the flower will appear the following year (after successful rooting). If it already has roots, it can flower in the same year.
