Often, seeds of Plumerias are offered on large platforms like Amazon or eBay, claiming to bloom in green or blue or even completely black. Firstly, such flower colors do NOT exist in Plumerias at this time, and secondly, any color can appear from seeds after 3-7 years on the plant. Under no circumstances buy such seeds or cuttings if the color is extremely bright or unusual. Plumeria seeds contain the complete genetic material of all varieties that have been present in the lineage so far. Therefore, it can happen that from a seed of the ‚Black Tiger‘, which actually blooms deep red (almost black), a plant with white flowers could emerge. AND, it can happen that theoretically each seed from a seed pod develops a different flower color! So if you are looking for a special variety, buy cuttings or plants! Many Frangipani enthusiasts are still uncertain about overwintering. Should they be overwintered cold and dark, or just cold, or just dark? None of the above! The Plumeria rubra sheds its leaves at the beginning of its winter dormancy. It can be placed in a dark room (no leaves = no photosynthesis), but it doesn’t have to be. And cold is also misleading information. It only needs to be at least 10 – 15°C to minimize the risk of loss. If you have a Plumeria obtusa or a Plumeria pudica. Don’t be surprised that they don’t produce leaves during the winter break, as both varieties are evergreen. These two varieties also require light and some moisture during the dormancy period to simulate the humidity of their native habitat. If you are unsure whether you own one of the two varieties, just contact our team. You are on vacation and see a beautiful Plumeria. How nice would it be to have a cutting of your own. Yes, but before you think about how to cut it, check if you are allowed to export plants from the respective country. Within the EU, there are no problems. For countries outside the EU, export may be permitted, but import into the EU is only allowed with a health certificate! Many Plumeria enthusiasts are looking for dark red flowers that almost approach black. There are some of these varieties, and they are often traded in Europe. Unfortunately, due to our ‚weak‘ sun, the flower color will never get that dark. More than a dark red is something we will not see here in Europe. There are no colors like ‚blue‘, ‚green‘, or a mixture of these
