Pricing for Frangipani Plants

For years, I have been observing the market for Plumeria or Frangipani plants, and it is often the case that customers unfortunately have a wrong perception of prices.

WHY IS THAT? WHAT DO I MEAN BY THIS?

90% of customers assume that the plant becomes more expensive the taller it is. Therefore, most would buy a 2m stem for €100 because it is already large – BUT IT IS NOT BEAUTIFUL!

A beautifully branched yet compact plant creates a much nicer image than a „stem,“ and you also have much better chances of flowers.

The price from a good dealer (and I want to be one) is determined by the following criteria:

– Number of branches
– Appearance, growth form of the plant (Display)
– How rare is the variety
– Size of the plant (secondary value)
– Size of the pot (secondary value)
– Purchase price of the plant

A perfectly shaped plant will achieve a much higher price in the market than a Plumeria that is 2x taller but less beautifully grown!

Shopping Tip

Always look at how many branches a chosen Plumeria has. Do not value the height but rather the number of branches.

For varieties that tend to grow like a „stem“ (e.g., „Black Tiger“), you will have to make an exception. Highly branched „Black Tiger“ plants are rare, and when available, they are really expensive!
